Aspiring Highsteppers should undergo dance training and consider joining the McCullough Junior High School Highland Girls drill team. Tryouts are held each spring at The Woodlands High School senior campus, preceded by a mini-camp for learning choreography and techniques. For details on key dates and requirements, contact Director Hays early in the school year. The team, initially 35 members, selects dancers based on kick height, technique, and overall ability, with judges usually being former Highsteppers. Once on the team, members must try out for each performance.

COSTS

Initial costs vary depending on purchased practice items, with opportunities to buy gently used items at the Highstepper Garage Sale. Yearly dues are voted on by the Highstepper Parent Club and collected in the fall. Fundraisers throughout the year help cover travel and competition expenses.

TIME COMMITMENT

The schedule is year-round, requiring daily practices of 2-3 hours, including class time and after-school sessions, especially during football and competition seasons. Practices start in August before the school year begins.
